Notes on Attendance of the 1st National Congress on Uña de Gato in Peru

     The many properties of this plant clearly destine it to become a legend. In her book Witchdoctor's Apprentice, Searching for Medicinal Plants in the Amazon, Nicole Maxwell referred to Una de Gato as perhaps the most important plant in the Rainforest. Researched in Peru and Europe since the 70's the many attributes of this extraordinary botanical, as well as its reputation as an herbal antioxidant, makes it an integral part of our daily regimen. Growing deep in the heart of the Amazon, this hardy vine has long been used and revered by the native people for its multiple benefits.
     For many years we have been working with the Indigenous Rainforest People wildcrafting the Una de Gato in an ecologically sound manner. In August of 1994, we were among the few outsiders to participate in the first National Congress on Una de Gato in Peru. This was an unprecedented two day conference called by the Peruvian Government, to address the important issues surrounding this Rainforest treasure. 
Dr. Fernando Cabieses, Dr. Lida Obregon and other practitioners were present to discuss their experience in using Una de Gato. Also, much emphasis was placed on the ecological consequences to the Rainforest as the rest of the world begins to discover the many benefits of this herb and its popularity and worldwide demand grows dramatically.
     As my original degree is in Environmental Studies, you have my pledge that our Una de Gato is always wildcrafted in concert with the local Indians in an ecologically sound manner. We always use the premium inner bark of the vine and our Una de Gato is also certified to be Uncaria Tomentosa by an independent botanist. In addition to working with the Indigenous Rainforest Groups to empower them locally, we also return an additional percentage of all revenues to the preservation of this botanical treasure house.
     In light of the many challenges we are facing each day, Una de Gato has always been the anchor of our product line. We offer it in both spaygeric liquid extract and capsules.
